Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by a score of 29 runs on Sunday, April 7, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, to finally gain their first two points in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) after three straight losses. With Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (42 off 23), Hardik Pandya (39 off 33), Tim David (45* off 21), and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10) all making significant contributions, MI amassed a massive 234/5 after being put in to bat first.
With stats of 2/35 in four overs, Axar Patel was the most impressive bowler from DC. As a result of starter David Warner (10 off 8) being cheaply removed, DC had a difficult start. Even though Prithvi Shaw (66 off 40) and Tristan Stubbs gave it their all to keep their side in the match, they were unable to reach the objective, ultimately finishing at 205/8 in the 20 overs that were given to them.

Now, let’s examine the game’s highlights:
1. Rohit Sharma launches MI onto a blazing start
On his home field, the opening batsman displayed his most commanding qualities and immediately engaged the bowlers. After hitting back-to-back boundaries against Ishant Sharma to start his innings, Rohit made it clear what he was going to do by hitting a pair of sixes against Jhye Richardson. With six fours and three sixes to his credit, the 36-year-old had to leave for 49 (27) to fall just one run short of his well-earned half-century.

2. Romario Shepherd hits 32 runs in the final over against Anrich Nortje.
With his team looking for a strong finish at 181/5 after 17.5 overs, the West Indies all-rounder stepped to the crease. After hitting Ishant Sharma for his first boundary on the very second ball of his innings, Shepherd went on to bash Anrich Nortje for four sixes and two boundaries, bringing MI’s total to 234/5 in their allotted 20 overs. By the end of the innings, Shepherd was still unbeaten with 39* (10).

3. Tristan Stubbs’ magnificent knock is ineffective
After stepping up to the crease with DC needing 125 runs to win off 47 balls, the 23-year-old did not take long to get going, hitting Piyush Chawla for two sixes in his opening six balls. Despite failing to lead his team across the finish line, Stubbs’ blistering fifty off only 19 balls gave the DC camp some optimism. With a final-inning knock of 71*(25), smashing three fours and seven sixes, he recorded his highest IPL score to date.
