Former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni failed to make an important catch behind the wickets. On Monday, April 8, in an in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Andre Russell, the experienced goalie provided Russell with a lifeline.
After winning the toss and choosing to field first, CSK took the field in the 22nd match of the IPL 2024 season. In the twenty overs that they were given, KKR amassed a respectable 137/9.
After Rinku Singh was removed from the game, Russell entered the batting in the 17th over with the score at 112-6. As he faced Mustafizur Rahman’s cutters, the all-rounder found it difficult to get going early on, striking only one boundary off his first five deliveries.

Russell tried to go big in the 18th over, but his reckless swing was limited to an outside edge. Dhoni, the seasoned wicketkeeper, tried to leap and extended his right glove when the ball came towards his right side. Nevertheless, Dhoni’s signature agility and reactions were not evident throughout the effort, and the ball did not stick.

Luckily for CSK, the lost catch did not cost them much because Tushar Deshpande dismissed Russell for a run-a-ball 10 in the very next over.
CSK goes back to winning ways
Dhoni too failed to capitalize on a last-ball run-out. Shreyas Iyer, the visiting captain, led the way for the visitors with a modest 34 off 32 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja was the best bowler for CSK with stats of 3-18 from his four overs.
In an attempt to chase down the paltry total and hand KKR their first loss of the season, CSK’s openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, came to the field. However, Shreyas Iyer’s team demonstrated tenacity by dismissing the Kiwi batsman early on. But his opening partner made sure there were no major setbacks in the chase going forward by playing a captain’s knock. Chennai eventually emerged victorious by seven wickets, returning to their previous winning ways.
