On Friday at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, the Punjab Kings pulled off an uncommon achievement by successfully pursuing a 262-run goal set by the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the history of T20 cricket, this was the highest-ever chase. In the league rankings, Punjab moved up to the eighth position thanks to their victory, while KKR held onto the second position despite suffering their third loss of the year.
The top four clubs in the league will advance to the IPL 2024 playoffs, for those who are unaware.
The first qualifier will pit the top two teams against one another, with the victor going directly to the final. The teams ranked third and fourth in the IPL 2024 standings will play in the eliminator. Next, the winning team from Qualifier 1 will play the losing team from the Eliminator. There will be a final on May 26th, and the winner of Qualifier 2 will go forward.
With five victories in nine games so far this season, KKR is well-positioned to make the playoffs. They still have a few games to go, though, in order to prevent a rapid decline in performance as the season draws to a close. They need at least four more points to make the playoffs, even with their 10 points from eight games.
KKR plans to pursue a hassle-free postseason entry.
While some teams with 14 points have advanced to the postseason in the past, they typically place third or fourth. In order to take full advantage of the benefits and increase their chances of placing in the top two, KKR needs to win three of their final six games.

“Both sides performed quite well; it was one of those games where you have to look back and see where things went wrong, particularly with regard to the inability to defend 260. We need to enumerate the requirements and develop more innovative concepts. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer remarked at the post-match presentation, “It is fantastic to watch him (Narine) go out there and strike the ball. Hopefully, he keeps continuing with such performances.”
