The 38th IPL 2024 match saw the Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians square off at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After winning the toss, Mumbai, captained by Hardik Pandya, decided to bat first. Mumbai had a difficult start, losing three wickets for only twenty runs in the first four overs.
But for a short while, Tilak Varma and Mohammad Nabi’s alliance stabilized their innings. After Nabi was removed from the game, Nehal Wadhera teamed up with Tilak to take full advantage of Rajasthan’s bowling attack, leading Mumbai to a score of 179 in 20 overs. Sandeep Sharma excelled for Rajasthan, taking five wickets, while Tilak batted 65 and Nehal added 49.
Rajasthan, in turn, responded with great effect, as opening pair Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal were very powerful. Captain Sanju Samson joined Jaiswal, and the two of them shut off Mumbai’s bowlers, despite Buttler leaving after hitting 35. With Jaiswal reaching an undefeated century (104) and Sanju staying undefeated on 38 off 28 balls, Rajasthan easily reached the goal with nine wickets and eight balls remaining.
Now, let’s examine the game’s highlights:
1. Tilak Varma presented his course.
The Mumbai Indians were down to 20 for three when Tilak Varma, batting left-handed with style and grace, struck 65 off 45 balls. Mumbai was able to steady themselves and score a respectable total thanks to his performance.

2. The five wickets that Sandeep Sharma took
Due to fitness issues, Sandeep Sharma was earlier benched, but he made an incredible comeback in this game. His outstanding bowling performance, which resulted in five wickets, upset the Mumbai Indians’ batting order. Sharma limited the pressure for the RR batsmen by keeping Mumbai from setting a lofty goal, first taking two wickets and then taking three more in the critical final overs.

After struggling with form earlier in the season, Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to form with a magnificent century that silenced his critics. His brilliant 104 runs off 60 balls, which included seven sixes and nine fours, helped Rajasthan win the championship once more.

Sandeep Sharma is easily the most underrated IPL player. Goes about his job silently, is very brainy and a wicket-taker. 193 T20 wickets at 7.5 Economy. Not a bad idea to consider him for World T20, I think.

Sandeep Sharma one of the most underrated bowlers in #IPL history.
