Arriving in the city ahead of their opening 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Virat Kohli and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team were greeted warmly at the airport in Chennai late on Tuesday, March 19. On Friday, March 22, at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the much awaited matchup will take place.
After revealing their new moniker, RCB hopes to get motivation from their women’s team’s triumph in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. The Smriti Mandhana-led squad defeated the Delhi Capitals in the championship match to win the title. This year, the team captained by Faf du Plessis hopes to secure the coveted crown and pull off an uncommon double triumph. It’s important to remember that, despite three final appearances, RCB has never experienced a championship victory.
The availability of Kohli, the star Indian batsman, gives RCB more strength as he makes his comeback to the field after a shorter absence for personal reasons. The crowd erupted in applause for the former RCB skipper and the entire team as soon as they arrived in Chennai.

A visibly moved Kohli went on to reiterate his love and dedication to the RCB, vowing he would never desert the team. The veteran batsman, 35, who has been a mainstay of the Bengaluru squad from the competition’s start, also acknowledged that winning an IPL championship has long been a goal of his.
