On June 3, the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 18th edition will come to a close with the final in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Following a series of meetings on Tuesday, May 20, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the final decision.
The 10-day stoppage brought on by cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan affected the tournament’s flow and the availability of several players, necessitating a rescheduling of this year’s IPL schedule.
The Narendra Modi Stadium will host an IPL final for the third time.
The first was in 2022, the venue’s first time hosting in the lucrative league. In 2023, the second occurred. On June 1, the stadium will host Qualifier 2 in addition to the final.
The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, will host the Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator for the remainder of the playoffs, according to the BCCI. May 29 and May 30 are the dates of these two games, respectively.
The inclement weather, which has already started to disrupt the games in numerous parts of the country, was a major consideration in choosing these locations. During these knockout matches, the BCCI wants to minimise rain-related disruptions.
Three teams—Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS)—have already guaranteed their places in the playoffs as the IPL 2025 starts its last leg. In order to gain the vital advantage of an additional chance to go to the final, these teams are now competing for the top two spots.
There are nine league games left to play in the tournament’s final stage, and the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are still in the running for the final playoff position.
