At the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, March 23, during Match 3 of the 2025 Indian Premier League between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians, Shivam Dube was removed thanks to a brilliant catch by Tilak Varma on the long-on fence. Dube sent IPL rookie Vignesh Puthur’s tossed-up, 80 kph ball crashing to the ground.
At the instant of contact, the ball appeared to sail beyond the ropes for a huge maximum. But the ball gained height rather than distance, allowing Varma to safely pocket it at the barrier. Because the southpaw had to wait under the ball for a considerable amount of time while still being aware of his surroundings, the catch was all the more remarkable.

Puthur’s second victim of the night was Dube. He left for nine off seven deliveries, unable to make much of an impact. In his first IPL match, the 24-year-old left-arm wrist-spinner finished with three wickets.
Deepak Hooda and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, were the victims of his first and third wickets.
Puthur was brilliant, but MI ultimately failed. The home team was headed by quick half-centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Gaikwad. It’s interesting to note that the most economical bowler for the visitors turned out to be Naman Dhir, a top-order batsman and occasional right-arm off-spinner. Noor Ahmad was outstanding earlier in the match, taking four wickets while giving up just 18 runs in four overs.
