The IPL 2025 saw KKR chase down a score of 104 with 59 balls remaining, giving CSK their worst defeat at home. KKR defeated CSK by 8 wickets as they were held to their lowest IPL total ever in Chennai. Based on the amount of balls remaining in the chase, KKR gave CSK its largest home losing margin in the process.
From the very beginning, KKR held the advantage against CSK. The bowlers from KKR were quite effective throughout the Powerplay overs, taking wickets and preventing the CSK hitters from accelerating. As the game went on, it became more and more difficult to score runs. Against a strong bowling team, CSK collapsed and never bounced back, with wickets falling at a steady pace.
When the 20 overs were over, CSK had dropped from 59/2 in 9.3 overs to 103/9. As a team, KKR bowled well and swept through the CSK batting order. With four-over spells of 3/13, 2/22, and 2/16, respectively, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Harshit Rana were the best bowlers. 104 was never going to be a difficult number.
Thanks to the quick starts of Quinton De Kock and Sunil Narine, KKR had little trouble reaching the target. Before being removed, De Kock hit 23(16), but Narine scored a quick 44(18), which featured five sixes and two fours. Rinku Singh and Ajinkya Rahane ultimately remained undefeated with 20*(17) and 15*(12), respectively, helping KKR win by 8 wickets.
Key Moments from CSK vs KKR, Match 25 of IPL 2025
1. KKR’s disciplined bowling in the first 5 overs
KKR bowled well right from the word go. In the first 5 overs of the match, the visiting side had the home side reeling at 18/2. The KKR bowlers sent the CSK openers back to the pavilion and did not allow them to fire. Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana claimed wickets with the new ball.
When Vijay Shankar entered the middle, he got a couple of lives. The quality of bowling early in the match set the tone for KKR. From there, the defending champions did not look back, as they constantly put pressure on the CSK batters. While the pace duo of Rana and Arora bowled well, they were assisted by Moeen Ali’s spell.

2. KKR restrict CSK to their least IPL total in Chennai
KKR never struggled in the game, as both of their batting and bowling units constantly put pressure on the opponents. With the ball, the KKR bowlers were exceptional, as none of the 5 bowlers went for runs and picked wickets at the same time. Rana, Narine, and Chakravarthy were the pick of the bowlers.
Narine returned with the best spell of the season, as he claimed 3/13 in his 4 overs. Rana and Varun claimed 2/16 and 2/22, respectively, in their spell of 4 overs. Moeen and Arora played their part well and ensured KKR restricted CSK to a total of 103/9. It is CSK’s lowest total at Chepauk in the history of the IPL.

3. KKR hand CSK their biggest defeat at home
KKR had no trouble in chasing a target of 104 runs, which was not threatening at all. The 3-time champions got a great start to their innings, as Quinton De Kock and Narine gave them a fiery start. While De Kock scored 23(16), Narine had a great night, which included his 44(18) with the bat.
Despite dismissing both the openers, CSK was never close to winning the match, as KKR raced away to a convincing win quickly. Skipper Rahane and Rinku Singh ensured their team reached the total safely with 59 balls to spare. It was the biggest margin of victory for a chasing side against CSK in Chennai in the history of the league.
