IPL 2025: DC vs SRH, Match 10 - Who Said What?

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), one of the most well-liked teams, faced the Delhi Capitals (DC), the hosts, in Match 10 of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 10. Captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first after winning the toss. However, SRH was bowled out for 163 as a result of losing wickets frequently. An early collapse (37/4) had placed them in trouble in the fifth over, but young all-rounder Aniket Verma played a brilliant knock of 74 runs off just 41 balls.

Talking Points

1. Aniket-Klaasen’s reviving partnership, Starc’s 5-wicket haul

His 77-run stand with Heinrich Klaasen helped the Hyderabad-based franchise to recover. In fact, during his thrilling knock, he got lucky with catch drops and made merry of it to punish the Sunrisers’ bowlers.

Mitchell Starc, a pacer, was the main wrecker, taking three wickets during the powerplay. He demonstrated his dominance over the explosive batter by cheaply dismissing Travis Head once more. He then claimed two more wickets to finish with an incredible five-wicket (5/35) haul. In his bowling spell, Kuldeep Yadav too spun his web and took three wickets (3/22).

2. McGurk-Plessis’ fiery opening stand

In reply to the run chase, Delhi Capitals’ openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Faf du Plessis started in a fiery manner. the pair smacked 81 runs in just 9.1 overs to set the platform for the hosts. While McGurk (38 runs off 32 balls) missed out on his half-century, Du Plessis played fluently to complete his fifty off just 27 balls, before getting dismissed by a young Zeeshan Ansari.

3. DC batters continued to score briskly

The tempo set by the openers was followed ahead by the rest of the Delhi batters. They continued to attack the SRH bowlers. Comeback man KL Rahul too entertained the crowd during his short stay (15 runs off 5 balls) with his clean hitting. In the end, Abhishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs sealed the game for the hosts in the 16th over to claim a dominant seven-wicket victory.

Meanwhile, here’s what the captains and POTM (Player of the Match) had to say regarding how the match turned out on Sunday in Vizag:

Who Said What?

Axar Patel, DC (Winning captain) said,

I have told I am going to lead the side in the same manner. You need to be up with your game. You can’t take any game easily, there are 10 good teams playing. We need to focus on our plans and process. Today we were successful in doing so. Plan was to give Starc two overs at the start and two overs at the end, but he was in good rhythm.

Hence, I gave him the third over and he was able to pick an important wicket. We have experienced players in the team, they give me suggestions. Sometimes I follow them. Enjoying playing with these players. We are playing at Kotla since many years, we’ll have similar plans. Need to assess the conditions after going there.

Pat Cummins, SRH (Losing captain) said,

(On the decision to play on this pitch and when it was taken) The decision was taken before we played the first match that we would be playing this match on black soil. (On if that decision was based on the opposition) That was a factor as well, this kind of wicket suits our batting and bowling more (than the red soil). Batting on black soil, it is difficult to hit boundaries when the ball gets old, so wanted to hit boundaries (during the powerplay). We can all talk about the plans, certain things go your way, sometimes they don’t.

(On Rashid not bowling out) I don’t know, maybe this could be the first time (he only bowled two overs in a T20 game). I actually kept his overs to bowl in the end, but the way the pacers were bowling…did not want to get the game loosened up. Prasidh was bowling beautifully and thought why not to bowl him out. (On their next games being in Bengaluru and Hyderabad) We have seen the par score on those wickets are quite different from what we have played on (here), but that will be a good challenge.

Mitchell Starc, Player of the Match said,

It has been a good day. With the ball, in the field and with the bat. It was a fantastic performance by us today. There isn’t ego in bowlers these days. As a bowler you got to think out of the box. You need to do things you wouldn’t normally do. It was nice to contribute in the win today, we move forward from here. Guys know what I am going to do, so you need to think out of the box.

As an older player you need to find different ways to get batters out. Tried to bowl different balls today, was pretty effective I think. It’s a new set of players, they have been fantastic. You get to play with new guys, it’s a great group of players. It’s a pretty young group to be fair, looking forward to playing more with them.
