In match 63 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Delhi Capitals (DC) controlled the first innings for the most part before the Mumbai Indians (MI) finished on 180/5 in their 20 overs thanks to a late assault from Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir.
From the beginning, the surface at Wankhede Stadium seemed slow. But the new ball landed on the bat wonderfully. Mustafizur Rahman cheaply removed Rohit Sharma, but Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks smashed a barrage of boundaries on the powerplay. However, MI collapsed to 58/3 after both of its foreign players left in consecutive overs.
Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma batted conservatively in an attempt to create a platform that the other batters could follow. In their 55-run partnership off 49 balls, Suryakumar and Tilak failed to step up, as Mustafizur and Mukesh Kumar made full use of the slower deliveries while DC spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam had turn on offer.
MI captain Hardik Pandya was only able to score three runs after Tilak was removed for a run-a-ball that was 27. In 18 overs, MI puffed and sputtered to 132/5. The tide changed, though, as Naman did the majority of the damage and Mukesh let up 27 runs off the penultimate over. The over began with Suryakumar reaching his half-century off 36 balls with a six over extra cover, and the Punjab batsman hammered two sixes and as many boundaries.
In the last over, bowled by Dushmantha Chameera, Suryakumar hit two fours and sixes.as MI amassed 48 runs in the last two overs to get to what seemed an improbable total at one stage. Mukesh bagged two wickets, but the last over spoiled his figures. He conceded 48 runs in his four-over spell. Chameera, Kuldeep, and Mustafizur chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Suryakumar finished not out on 73 off 43 balls, belting seven fours and four maximums. Naman also plundered 24 runs off eight balls in his unbeaten knock.
