In Match No. 7 of the IPL 2025, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) chose to field first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium after winning the toss. Avesh Khan replaced Shahbaz Ahmed as the only lineup alteration made by LSG. Shahbaz struggled against the Delhi Capitals in the previous game, failing with both bat and ball, hence the choice was taken.

The Hyderabad-based team had a great start to the season. But by taking wickets frequently, LSG’s bowlers made sure they never allowed the opposition hitters to settle. Head launched a counterattack in spite of the double setback. Two of his lost catches were exploited by the Australian batsman, who smashed 47 off 28 balls. With a brilliant delivery, Prince Yadav bowled him out to end his innings. Heinrich Klaasen, the wicketkeeper-batter, was run out in an odd fashion at 26 as the ball deflected off spinner Prince and struck the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Before succumbing to Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy attempted to steady the ship with a solid 32 off 28 balls. Aniket Verma made a significant appearance by hitting 36 runs, including five sixes, off just 13 balls. But as wickets continued to fall, the Orange Army was unable to finish as they had hoped. Captain Pat Cummins scored 18 from 4 balls, including a few maximums.

The most effective bowler was Thakur, who finished with his greatest IPL performance of 4 for 34. Only 10 runs were scored in the final two overs as LSG’s bowlers held SRH to 190/9 in 20 overs. Considering recent high-scoring games, 190 might be a below-average total, but SRH still has a potent bowling attack that can protect it. LSG will appreciate their effort, though.
