On Tuesday, March 25, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by 11 runs in Match 5 of the 2025 IPL. PBKS defeated the 2022 champions for the third time.
Punjab got off to a fast start because to Priyansh Arya’s boundary-laden innings. But it appeared as though the GT were back in the game after Sai Kishore’s two blows. All-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Azmatullah Omarzai were removed off consecutive balls by Kishore. But after it, Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh were the main focus.
Punjab won thanks to Iyer’s amazing knock, while Shashank’s 16-ball, 44-run blitzkrieg was the icing on the cake. The latter’s hitting ultimately starved Iyer of strike, as he finished undefeated at 97. Kishore finished his four-over quota with statistics of 3/30, making him the most economical bowler for the home team.
When it came to the run-chase, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill combined to score 61 off 35 deliveries, giving the GT openers a strong start. The powerplay was about to end when Gill left. Jos Buttler, a batsman and wicketkeeper, came out and worked with Sudharsan to advance the score.
Nevertheless, despite a brave knock by Impact Player Sherfane Rutherford and a quick fifty from Buttler, who left in the 18th over, the Titans were unable to reach the necessary run rate. After Arshdeep Singh took two wickets, they ultimately lost.
Key Moments from Match 5 of IPL 2025:
1. Sai Kishore twin strikes stall Punjab Kings
After conceding only two runs in his first over, the crafty left-arm spin of ishore had Azmatullah Omarzai pick out deep midwicket. On the very next delivery, he secured the massive wicket of Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck on the latter’s first game for PBKS after half a decade. The flashy Australian missed a reverse-sweep to be struck in front. Had Maxwell chose to challenge the decision, he would have survived as ball tracking showed it going over the stumps.

His most productive shot was the pull, off which he notched up 28 runs out of 97. He ended up registering his highest score in the IPL, while was instrumental in guiding his side to a colossal 243.

3. Sai Sudharsan falls as Shashank Singh grabs pressure catch
It seemed as if Sudharsan would run away with the game after getting to his half-century. However, a superbly-timed flick by the southpaw went straight to Shashank at deep backward square.
