The IPL 2025 match between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala was cancelled due to a technical issue caused by one of the floodlights at the stadium not working. In light of the ongoing tensions at the Indo-Pak border, media sites reported shortly after the incident that the region was also impacted by blackout.
However, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India formally declared, they did not impede the match’s seamless conduct. The game was cancelled due to floodlight failure, but the organisers maintained that no security issues were to blame. According to board secretary Devajit Saikia, the IPL has chosen to escalate the player and other match officials to a safer location even though the situation is currently under control. Saikia stated that the BCCI is keeping a close eye on the situation and that any decisions made will be in the best interests of the country.
Taking everything into consideration, we have chosen to postpone today’s game. Because of the current state of affairs, which is getting worse throughout the surrounding country as well as in Dharamshala, we have decided to call off today’s match. We shall do everything in the best interests of the nations, with the safety of players, fans, and support staff as our top priority. As reported by India Today, he stated, “We are keeping an eye on the situation and will make the appropriate call.”
IPL Chairman now on
Arun Singh Dhumal, the IPL chairman, who was at the location and even told the crowd to leave after the event was cancelled, has stated that they have not received any orders from the government. The board and the stakeholders are limited to making a decision in such a situation only when the government issues an official statement.
“At this moment, we are assessing the circumstances. This is a condition that is changing. The government hasn’t given us any orders yet. The choice will be made with all the logistics in mind, of course,” Dhumal said.
