On Tuesday, March 25, Gujarat Titans (GT) lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 11 runs in a thrilling match played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Shubman Gill chose to field first on what appeared to be an excellent batting surface after winning the toss. Although Priyansh Arya and captain Shreyas Iyer established a 51-run partnership off just 21 balls, Prabhsimran Singh was removed cheaply. Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and Azmatulla Omarzai were unable to do much damage after Arya was removed for 47 off 23 balls.
Shreyas, however, assumed responsibility for leading Punjab to an enormous total. Shashank Singh provided him with great assistance and quickly adjusted to the circumstances. With an undefeated 81-run stand off just 28 balls, the two batsmen crushed the Gujarat bowlers. 87 runs were scored in the innings’ final five overs. Shashank scored 44 from 16 balls and was still undefeated. Shreyas, meanwhile, finished with 97 not out off 42 deliveries, surpassing his previous IPL maximum score. The home team’s best bowler was R Sai Kishore, who finished with stats of 3/30 in four overs.
Gujarat needed to fire from their young openers, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, as they chased a massive goal of 244. They achieved a partnership of 61 runs inside the powerplay by playing some stunning shots. Shubman died while trying a big shot, and the bet paid off when Glenn Maxwell was added to the attack.
They added 84 runs off 40 balls without taking many chances after Jos Buttler joined Sudharsan. When Sudharsan left for a solid 74 off 41 balls in the 13th over, Arshdeep Singh ended the partnership. Sherfane Rutherford was introduced as the Impact Player, and he immediately made an amazing impression. Buttler reached a half-century by playing well at the other end as well.
Nevertheless, Vijaykumar Vyshak emerged as Punjab’s Impact Player and performed admirably under duress. Rutherford found it difficult to adjust when he bowled full and near the wide line.
Gujarat had seven wickets in the bank, but it was difficult to score the 27 runs required off the final over against Arshdeep. Ultimately, the home team finished at 232/5 after losing two wickets and scoring 15. In his four overs, Arshdeep gave up 36 runs while taking two wickets. Maxwell and Marco Jansen, meanwhile, both contributed a wicket.
