The Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) handily at their home stadium, Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. Hardik Pandya, the captain of MI, won the toss and chose to bowl first in anticipation of the effect of the dew later that night.
CSK, who batted first, managed to reach a valiant 175 for five wickets. With a blistering 32 off just 15 balls, young Mumbai kid Ayush Mhatre made his debut in lieu of Rahul Tripathi. Shivam Dube contributed firepower with a quick fifty off thirty-two deliveries, while Ravindra Jadeja, who played an undefeated performance of 53* from thirty-five balls, further stabilised the innings. Mumbai’s bowling assault was led by the accurate Jasprit Bumrah, who took two vital wickets in his four-over performance.
The MI batting lineup demonstrated their absolute supremacy when chasing 176. Rohit Sharma, the former captain, struck 76* off 45 balls, including four boundaries and six tall sixes, to take the lead. Suryakumar Yadav provided him with support, hitting six fours and five sixes in a scorching innings of 68* off just 30 balls. The pair demonstrated their class and experience by putting together a 114-run partnership off of just 54 deliveries, easily surpassing the mark.
With their fourth victory of the IPL 2025 season and their third straight victory, the Mumbai Indians advanced to sixth place in the standings. With just two victories to date, CSK is still at the bottom of the table and is still struggling.
