The 56th IPL 2025 match saw the Gujarat Titans defeat the Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets in a rain-affected thriller at the Wankhede Stadium. Rain interrupted the last part of the match, but GT, chasing 156, managed to meet the amended DLS goal of 147 in 19 overs.
The Gujarat Titans chose to bowl first after winning the toss. In 20 overs, the Mumbai Indians scored a respectable 155/8. The innings was saved by Will Jacks (53 off 35) and Suryakumar Yadav (35 off 24), after Rohit Sharma (7) and Rickelton (2) fell early. However, MI was unable to register a higher score due to frequent middle-overs wickets, including two from Sai Kishore. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna each took a wicket, but Rashid Khan and Arshad Khan were frugal.
Sai Sudharsan was lost early in the Gujarat Titans’ sluggish start to the reply. With help from Jos Buttler (30), Shubman Gill played a captain’s knock, hitting 43 off 46 balls. With two wickets apiece, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded MI’s bowling effort. Additionally, Ashwani Kumar contributed two crucial wickets in the middle overs.
With 12 balls left, the Titans were 24 runs from winning when play was stopped by rain. The DLS aim was set at 15 runs from the final 6 balls upon restart. Gerald Coetzee and Rahul Tewatia stepped up to help secure the victory, hitting a six and a four in the last over, respectively.
