Nicholas Pooran has been signed by the Lucknow Super Giants for the next Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. Although there was never any question about his retention for the team, there have been debates on whether to keep skipper KL Rahul or make him their first retention. As of right now, Pooran is most likely to take over as captain since the India international is leaving the team.
The team is willing to look for a new skipper, though, and they will try their luck if stars like Rishabh Pant or Shreyas are up for auction. On Tuesday, October 29, Pooran was in Sanjeev Goenka’s office in Kolkata to finish the necessary paperwork. The highest salary that the BCCI has established for retentions is INR 18 crore, which he would receive. Each franchise, however, is free to raise or lower that, but Lucknow has already paid him INR 18 crore, which is INR 2 crore more than he was previously making.
According to an LSG official cited by, “Pooran is dedicated to LSG, has a winning mindset, thinks deeply, and above all, he is adaptable to the batting order and any match situation.”
Mayank Yadav is most likely to be kept for the 2025 IPL after Nicholas Pooran.
The West Indies international has been, to put it mildly, incredibly successful throughout his two seasons with Lucknow. The 29-year-old scored 358 runs at a strike rate of 172.94 in 15 games during the 2023 season. Pooran wreaked havoc in the next edition, amassing 499 runs with a strike rate of 178.21 in 14 games. In the IPL 2024, when Rahul was an Impact Player against the Punjab Kings, he also captained Lucknow.
In addition to Pooran, Lucknow will keep Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi. The management is keen to keep Badoni and Mohsin in the uncapped category after their recent incredible Delhi Premier League performance.

However, they believe that Mayank is the pace attack’s future, and for that reason, they are prepared to pay a high price to keep him.
