The premier T20 league has seen many high scores since the Indian Premier League (IPL) implemented the Impact Player rule. Teams will be eager to use their bats even more in the 2025 event, after several records were broken. Here, we rank the batting squads for each team according on their composition.
Rating IPL 2025 Teams based on their batting strength
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (9.5/10)
The attacking batsmanship displayed by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma in the top order will stick in the minds of anyone who watched the 2024 Indian Premier League. It is anticipated that the opening combo will not change, and Ishan Kishan, the most recent addition, will follow. Later on, Pat Cummins has the skill to perform admirably under pressure, while players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Atharva Taide, and Heinrich Klaasen are not to be missed.
2. Mumbai Indians (9.5/10)
The five-time champions have the best names in the T20 cricket in the country. Hitman Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav are the backbone of their line-up, while Ryan Rickelton and Hardik Pandya are to provide the much-needed comfort for the side. Captain Pandya has the flexibility to shift his batting number as per the team’s needs, which is a great sign for Mumbai Indians. Mitchell Santner and Naman Dhir too are handy batting options.
3. Kolkata Knight Riders (9/10)
One may argue that the Kolkata Knight Riders’ potent batting lineup was the primary factor in their IPL 2024 victory. Well, with the addition of Quinton de Kock and Ajinkya Rahane, the unit has strengthened even more this time. The defending champions’ three most lethal finishers in the batting lineup are Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh, while Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are important figures in the top order.
4. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (8.5/10)
RCB look among the strongest batting units in the IPL 2025, however, they have a knack of relying too heavily on their top-order. This time, though, they have built a solid middle-order to make amends from previous seasons’ mistakes. Apart from their biggest match-winner Virat Kohli, captain Rajat Patidar will have to take the onus upon himself. Phil Salt will also bat at the top, while the middle-order will be formed by the likes of Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma and Krunal Pandya.
5. Delhi Capitals (8/10)
The Delhi Capitals’ team is marginally superior to the ones mentioned above. Together with keeper-batter Abishek Porel, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Faf du Plessis will probably make up the team’s starting lineup. It is likely that KL Rahul would get the middle-order place he requested. Tristan Stubbs, Karun Nair, and Ashutosh Sharma’s arrivals further stoke the top-order fire. Axar Patel may play both lower-order and middle-order depending on the circumstances. Harry Brook’s withdrawal makes the batting order seem a little slow.
6. Chennai Super Kings (8/10)
The first-choice opening duo will be Devon Conway and star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, with Rachin Ravindra as a backup. Along with them, the team also includes Deepak Hooda and Rahul Tripathi. Later, Sam Curran, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Vijay Shankar join the CSK camp. None other than MS Dhoni will play the last role. Many all-rounders may affect CSK a little in terms of bowling choices, but the fans will be most interested in how captain Gaikwad handles his cards.
7. Punjab Kings (7/10)
Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis will be in the batting order after Josh Inglis and Prabhsimran Singh, who are anticipated to begin the batting for Punjab. Shashank Singh, a 2024 hero, is another important member of their roster. Priyansh Arya, Aaron Hardie, and Azmat Omarzai can all be used depending on the demands of the game. The batting performance of Australia’s Maxwell and Stoinis will be crucial to Punjab’s victory.
8. Gujarat Titans (7/10)
The biggest plus-point about Gujarat Titans is their opening pair in Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. However, apart from them, they have the likes of Sherfane Rutherford, Glenn Phillips and Shahrukh Khan, who are fairly inexperienced in terms of their IPL careers. Sai Sudharsan can play the anchor role, but someone needs to keep firing from the other end, which seems to be missing in their middle order. Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan can play finishers for Gujarat, but a lot seems to be missing from their puzzle of perfect batting combination.
9. Rajasthan Royals (6.5/10)
Rajasthan Royals have let go Jos Buttler and that is a big dent to their batting lineup. Jaiswal will open the batting with Sanju Samson likely to be his partner. Nitish Rana is expected to be coming in at three. The firepower of Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer will form the middle order. Shubham Dubey and Wanindu Hasaranga can also add value down the order. However, heavy reliance on the top four is a concerning thing for the inaugural champions of the league in the upcoming 2025 edition.
10. Lucknow Super Giants (6.5/10)
LSG will rely heavily on their batting in IPL 2025, if they are to lift the coveted silverware this time round. Their core lies in their middle-order, where the side has the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant and David Miller. The left-handed trio will have to do bulk of the scoring, whereas the top-order batters in the form of Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Breetzke may also be utilized according to the situation alongside youngster Ayush Badoni as well. Lack of a solid top-order pair may cause problems for Pant & Co.
