Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been punished for his team’s poor overrate during Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against the Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs for his team’s second breach of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct governing minimum over-rate offences.
The remaining members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined INR 6 lakh or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever was lower.

“It’s only that they weren’t able to capitalise on their early success, but the purpose was incredible, and even I had to take my time. On the other end, the batsmen were striking fairly well. I know that the more time I spend on the pitch, the better I am, and my vision improves. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has also been punished for his team’s sluggish over rate. Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh for his team’s third breach of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct governing minimum over-rate offences. The remaining members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were individually fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever was less.
Shreyas batted brilliantly, seizing his opportunities and performing admirably. It was a par score, but it required excellent execution from the bowling team, but they were extremely calm and put us under pressure, and we were unable to execute as we desired.
