At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 29, IPL 2025 the Gujarat Titans defeated the Mumbai Indians by a commanding 36 runs, extending their winning run over the Indians to four straight victories at home. The Titans won their first game of the season and moved up to the top four in the standings. The Mumbai Indians, however, lost consecutive games and dropped farther in the standings.
On a surface that provided a little more bounce for the pacers, the Titans, who batted first, recorded an outstanding 196/8. The surface gave the bowlers who struck the deck hard a lot of purchase. The pacers from MI concentrated on swinging the ball early in the innings, but the Titans realised this and targeted good and shorter lengths.
The Mumbai Indians never appeared to be in the running pursuit, particularly after Tilak Varma began to have trouble rotating the strike. The GT bowlers put pressure on them all the time, making them make mistakes. As their team defeated the five-time winners with a resounding victory, GT’s Indian pacers ultimately had a memorable evening.
Key Moments from GT vs MI, Match 9 of IPL 2025
1. Titans top order scores in bulk
Much like the previous game against Punjab Kings, the Titans’ top order did the heavy job in terms of scoring runs for their team. Skipper Shubamn Gill scored 38 off 27, which included four fours and a si, while Jos Buttler played a fine knock as he scored 39 off 24 with the help of five fours and a six. Sai Sudarshan’s 63 off 41 was highly important in the context of the match, as it helped his team score more than a par score.
2. GT collapse from 179/3 to 196/8
While the top three were brilliant, the Titans witnessed a collapse towards the end of the innings. The home side was 179/3 after 17.5 overs and seemed good to post beyond 200. But in the last 13 balls, the hosts lost five wickets for just 17 runs as Mumbai Indians closed out the innings well.
3. Mohammed Siraj’s new-ball spell
The hosts got a brilliant start, as Mohammed Siraj claimed two wickets with the new ball. The star bowler delivered a peach of a delivery to get rid of Rohit Sharma, one of the key wickets of the opponents. He then got rid of Ryan Rickleton and put his team in a firm position in the game.

4. Suryakumar Yadav’s return to form
Suryakumar Yadav has not had a good time in the last few months. But it was a night which saw the unorthodox batter return to form. Suryakumar brought his innovation and scored 48 off 28, which included a four and four sixes, with his runs coming a strike rate of 171.43.

5. Prasidh Krishna’s match-winning spell
The bowler who made a lot of difference to MI’s innings was Prasidh Krishna. The right-arm pacer mixed his slower ones and hit the deck hard. He used shorter deliveries and the good-length deliveries well and deceived the batters well. Prasidh got important wickets of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar.
