Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for their second chance to reach the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) final.
Punjab Kings were soundly defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1, which took place at their home ground at Mullanpur. The RCB bowlers, headed by Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma, had the PBKS hitters falling like ninepins on a not-so-tough pitch. Phil Salt then hit a fast fifty, propelling RCB to their first IPL final in nine years.
Mumbai Indians, on the other side, advanced to Qualifier 2 after defeating Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator, which took place at Mullanpur. Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow got off to an explosive start, laying the groundwork for a record score. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya’s quick cameos provided MI with the necessary cushion.
Shubman Gill’s early ejection upset the Titans’ chase. Kusal Mendis also left after a brief cameo. Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar’s combination kept GT in contention, but Jasprit Bumrah ended that streak and made things difficult in the last overs. After Bumrah, GT discovered that the aim was too high to climb, and their quest ended in IPL 2025.
PBKS and MI have already faced off in the event, at Jaipur. Suryakumar Yadav’s fifty, combined with starts from a few other batters, gave MI a score that was around average. Punjab started cautiously, but Josh Inglis and Priyansh Arya hit fifty to send the hosts home with an over and a half to go.

Player battles to watch out for in Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2025 clash, Qualifier 2:
1. Suryakumar Yadav vs Yuzvendra Chahal

Suryakumar Yadav is known to be one of the most prolific players of spin in the world, but Yuzvendra Chahal has consistently kept him under control in the IPL. So far, Yadav has made 83 runs off 71 balls against Chahal, while being dismissed three times – for an average of 27.67 and a strike rate of 116.90.
2. Marcus Stoinis vs Jasprit Bumrah

In what was a dismal show by the PBKS batters in Qualifier 1, all rounder Marcus Stoinis was the only silver lining. He will now face Bumrah in Qualifier 2, but the memories are not pleasant for him. The ever-dependable Jasprit Bumrah has conceded just 28 runs in 36 balls and dismissed Stoinis three times in the IPL so far, giving the Australian an average of 9.33 and a strike rate of 77.78 against the Indian pacer.
