Ireland announces team for home series vs West Indies, add three uncapped players

The West Indies will be hosted by Ireland beginning on May 21. In three ODIs and three T20Is, the two teams will play one another. The Caribbean Giants will be hosted by the Green and Whites for the first time since 2019.

The Irish made their ODI and T20I team announcements today. Paul Stirling will be the team’s star opening batsman, and Lorcan Tucker will be his deputy. Young top-order batsman Cade Carmichael and two up-and-coming Irish fast bowlers Tom Mayes and Liam McCarthy are among the three uncapped players in the team who will play in the series.

National Men’s Selector Andrew White has praised the three players for their outstanding domestic cricket performances and offers an explanation for the selection. Although McCarthy is a member of both the ODI and T20I teams, Carmichael and Mayes will be included in the ODI lineup.

For many years, Cade Carmichael has been a part of the pathway. In April, White stated, “His skill, stroke play, and tenacity were all on full display for the Wolves, and his ascent over the past two years is a real demonstration of how consistent performances – and his ability to adapt his game to conditions – have been recognised with an international call-up.”

In a similar spirit, two seam bowlers, Liam McCarthy and Tom Mayes, have also received recognition for their reliability and capacity to pick up the pace when needed. McCarthy adds a somewhat new aspect to our attack and will undoubtedly test the batters’ tactics, while Mayes contributes his height and accuracy to the team.
