Ireland will play the West Indies in a three-match T20I series beginning on June 12. Ahead of the highly anticipated series, the Irish team will look to capitalise on the occasion by winning. Although they have won games here and there, a series victory would be a sweeter way to start their redemption era.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s batting and wicketkeeping coach, Gary Wilson, has spoken about the team’s hopes for the series against the two-time T20 World Cup winners, stating that they have a decent record against them.
The Ireland squad competed in an ODI series against the West Indies from May 21 to 25. The series finished in a 1-1 tie, with one game being cancelled due to weather.
“We’ve had a decent record against the West Indies in recent years, and this is a terrific venue to play cricket. The locals really get behind it. It’s a hub of Irish cricket, and we know how good they are in this format – it’s clearly the type they feel most at ease with, but we’re looking forward to the challenge, and hopefully the weather cooperates,” Wilson remarked, as quoted by the BBC.
“We’ve shown a big ability to get big results, especially on the global stage over the last number of years, now we’re looking to put that into series wins rather than one-off games,” Wilson went on.
The aim is to win the series. “Mark Adair”
While the West Indies suffered in their most recent T20I series against England, renowned Irish pacer Mark Adair believes they still have a lot of intriguing players in their ranks and remain one of the finest teams in the globe. In line with Wilson, the speedster appeared to be focused on finding ways to win the highly anticipated T20I Series.
“They’re one of the world’s top teams, in my opinion. I believe they have some of the most exciting cricket players and are one of the most enjoyable teams to watch. We’ll tackle this new problem front on. Hopefully, we will be able to conduct business. The aim is to win the series. I think we match up quite well, and I’m excited to get back out there,” Adair said.
