Ishan Kishan, the new wicketkeeper-batter for Sunrisers Hyderabad, made history on Sunday, March 23, becoming the first player to reach the 100-mark in the current IPL 2025. Kishan, who has participated in the IPL since 2016, achieved his first IPL century while playing against the Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in just 45 balls.
Kishan, who was purchased by SRH for an incredible INR 11.25 crore at the 2025 IPL auction, proved that the price tag was justified with an outstanding century. He scored six maximums and eleven boundaries in his undefeated 106 off 47, which came at a scorching strike rate of 225.53.
After Abhishek Sharma was fired, Ishan Kishan stepped in and immediately attacked the opposition.
In just six overs, he led the Hyderabad team to 94 runs thanks to a vital combination with Australian batsman Travis Head. Head’s 67 off 31 balls, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s explosive 30 off 15, and Heinrich Klaasen’s 34 off 14 balls propelled SRH to 286—the second-highest total in the competition’s history.
Kishan accomplished the feat in the 19th over by running double to finish his first IPL century and pushing Sandeep Sharma’s delivery into long-off. For Kishan, who had reached the three-figure mark in the IPL before but had never done so, this was a long-awaited milestone. For the Hyderabad team, he also became the first Indian player to reach a century. The southpaw said he wants to contribute to the squad and keep things simple following his innings.
It was anticipated for some time, and it feels fantastic. Although I was pleased to receive the first hundred, I hoped to receive this final season. I want to give it my all for the squad since they have trusted me. Kishan told reporters following his stunning attack, “The captain has given us all a lot of freedom and confidence, hats off to the management.”
“We batters in the dugout gained a lot of confidence by Abhishek and Head’s opening. We were merely attempting to put pressure on them, and the pitch was looking fantastic. We must keep it simple and be on point with the ball. “The bowlers from Rajasthan are good, but we should be good if we bowl according to the plans and in the right areas,” he continued.
