In a low-scoring match at the National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday, April 20, Islamabad United defeated Karachi Kings by a commanding six wickets to extend their undefeated streak in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. They became the only team in the tournament without a loss after the win, which was their fourth in a row.
Islamabad made the right choice by choosing to bowl first, even though many teams prefer to bat first. The first blood was drawn by Naseem Shah, who used a slower delivery to clean up Karachi captain David Warner. Jason Holder then rattled James Vince’s off stump.
The batting lineup from Karachi never really got going. In the first five overs, the bowlers from Islamabad held the Kings to just 29 runs.
The middle overs were then dominated by spinners Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim, who grabbed three wickets and gave up only 34 runs in eight overs. Shadab eliminated Saad Baig and Irfan Khan after finishing with scores of 2 for 17. Karachi’s total reached 128/7 in their 20 overs thanks only to a late appearance by Abbas Afridi, who scored 24* off 9 balls.
Sahibzada Farhan responded with a great start of 30 off 18 balls, continuing his incredible run. Even though Hasan Ali’s double-strike in the fifth over, which removed Farhan and Colin Munro, momentarily improved Karachi’s mood, the innings was steadied by the seasoned combination of Azam Khan and captain Shadab.
Shadab Khan led from the lead with a 47 after 40 deliveries, while Azam produced a knock of 31 off 30 balls while holding one end. They put the team in a winning position with their 65-run partnership off just 52 deliveries. They had decided the match, but Afridi bowled Shadab with the scores equal. With 17 balls remaining, the reigning champions continued their undefeated tournament run when Mohammad Nawaz pushed the following delivery for a single to complete the victory.
