Islamabad United defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 102 runs in a lopsided match on Sunday night in Rawalpindi, showcasing their batting and bowling prowess. United achieved their greatest PSL season total of 243/5, riding high on Sahibzada Farhan’s incredible century.
Islamabad United made a poor start after dismissing Andries Gous for a two-ball duck after choosing to bat first on a surface that was very helpful to hitters.
After this, Farhan wasted no time in dismantling Zalmi’s attacking strategy, taking young Ali Raza out for 22 in one over.
Farhan made sure that Islamabad United scored 73 runs during the powerplay.
Initially playing second fiddle, Colin Munro gave it his all in the middle of the innings. Zalmi’s best bowler in the previous games, Sufiyan Muqeem, was hammered for 32 in his final two overs and was unable to halt the United hitters. Farhan finished his innings with 13 boundaries and five sixes, reaching his century off just 49 balls.
Even though Zalmi quickly removed Munro and Farhan from the game, the damage had not been done. United finished at 243/5 after scoring 80 runs in the last six overs thanks to cameos from Azam Khan, Salman Agha, Jason Holder, and Ben Dwarshuis in the lower middle order.
Babar Azam (1), the captain of Zalmi, was caught at first slip off Dwarshuis in the opening over and died early. Saim Ayub and Mitchell Owen came soon after, and Zalmi was struggling at 26 for 3 at the conclusion of the fourth over.
But Mohammad Haris fought a little. His team had some optimism after his 47-ball 87. Imad Wasim, on the other hand, was outstanding with the ball and got rid of Owen, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Haris himself. In addition to the contributions of Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah, Saad Masood finished off a completely dominant bowling performance by taking George Linde out. Zalmi was dismissed for 141 in 18.2 overs when Dwarshuis came back to complete the tying the knot.
