Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out in the second over of Day 2 of India’s second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, missing out on a good opportunity to score his third double century.
Jaiswal pushed a full delivery from Jayden Seales firmly back to mid-off and immediately went for a quick single. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, turned back with no intention of making his way to the striker’s end. Jaiswal spotted it late, and when he spun back to return to the crease, he went far short. The throw came in at the wicketkeeper’s end, and Tevin Imlach dashed in to retrieve the ball before smashing the stumps.
Jaiswal was noticeably disappointed as he informed his captain that it was his decision.
The southpaw had to leave after scoring an incredible 175 from 258 balls, including 22 boundaries. He added only two runs to his overnight total. While he didn’t get a double century, he was pleased with his performance, especially after being removed for 36 in the first Test against the Caribbean team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last week.
Despite losing Jaiswal’s wicket early in the piece, the Asian giants are well on course to posting a huge first-innings total after Shubman won the toss and opted to bat first. The Indian captain is looking set for his ninth half-century score.
Meanwhile, the home side promoted Nitish Kumar Reddy up the order to No. 5. The 22-year-old all-rounder will look to get some runs under his belt after not getting a chance to bat in the first Test.
