Australian batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk is expected to follow English recruit Jamie Overton of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the second foreign player to be confirmed to miss the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League, which begins on May 17. The Delhi Capitals (DC), who purchased Fraser-McGurk at the super auction for INR 9 crore (about US$ 1.07 million), are rumoured to have told the team that he would not be returning to the team.
After having subpar batting performances towards the conclusion of IPL 2024, Fraser-McGurk was no longer needed by DC by the halfway point of this season.
Before being benched, 23-year-old Jake Fraser-McGurk opened in DC’s first six games but returned single-digit scores in five of them, including a peak of 38 in a total of 55 runs.
Nevertheless, the move won’t aid DC, who are still in the running for the playoffs, as it is known that they are still awaiting confirmations from a number of their first XI foreign players.
Mitchell Starc of Australia, a left-arm fast bowler, and Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs of South Africa are on that list.
According to CSA, Stubbs will have to follow the initial NOCs, which are valid till May 25—the original date for the IPL final—for the players who are headed to the World Test Championship final, which starts on June 11.
