Former England cricketer James Anderson will join Manchester Originals for the 2018 edition of The Hundred. He was acquired by the Originals as one of two wildcard picks ahead of the white-ball carnival. Anderson has never participated in the competition previously.
If the renowned former English seamer plays for the Originals, he will be the second-oldest player in The Hundred’s history, trailing only Imran Tahir. The former South African cricketer was 43 years and 149 days old when he last played in 2022.
James Anderson is presently representing Lancashire in the ongoing Vitality Blast event.
He has been in excellent form in the eight matches they have played thus far. The 42-year-old has 14 wickets with an outstanding economy rate of 7.75.
In terms of draughted players, each team has the opportunity to select two men’s and two women’s players in the Vitality Wildcard Draft for The Hundred and The Women’s Hundred, respectively, to strengthen their rosters. The concept behind it is to provide an intriguing opportunity for unselected platers to demonstrate their abilities and put themselves in the running throughout the first three months of the English domestic cricket season.
Anderson was previously ignored during the first draft, which took place in March. All 32 Vitality Wildcard picks (16 each for the eight teams in the men’s and women’s competitions) are set to be released by 11 a.m. (BST) on Tuesday, July 15.
The seasoned campaigner last played a white-ball match for England in 2015. From 2015 to 2024, he focused solely on the red-ball format, having already mastered Test cricket with his exceptional ball-handling abilities. Anderson became an incredible Test cricket icon. Overall, he took 991 wickets in his outstanding international career.
Anderson had previously registered in the Indian Premier League 2025 auction as well, but things did not go as planned for the experienced veteran. His name was shortlisted, but did not find any bidders ahead of the season where RCB eventually emerged victorious.
