The final England team for the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023 does not include Jason Roy. Jos Buttler, the English white-ball captain, took up the duty and personally notified Jason Roy of his expulsion from the team. In a same spirit, Buttler openly discussed his thoughts on the difficult decision to prefer Harry Brook over Roy following the latter’s injury.
However, it is a necessary component of a captain’s plan and tactics as England prepares for the ODI World Cup in 2023, according to Jos Buttler. The ODI captain also made sure to emphasize Roy’s tight friendship with him. As a result, making the choice to not include Roy in the ultimate decision became much more difficult.
No moment, in my opinion, is simple. Whether they are close friends or not, it is not a pleasant task to perform and is an aspect of the captain’s job that is not fun. I do believe it is my duty to share such information. It was a pretty difficult decision to make because he is a dear friend of mine, Buttler was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
Roy had already heard similar information from Buttler. Roy has previously been left out of England’s T20 World Cup roster. Roy’s terrible back spasms, which had him miss all four of England’s ODI matches against New Zealand, were the cause of the most recent exclusion. Harry Brook seized his place on the team.
We believe that Jason Roy position as top-order reserve will give us versatility. Buttler
Roy has been asked by England’s coaching staff if he is open to filling in as the top-order reserve during the World Cup in the event of injury. He won’t, however, be going to India with the main team. Harry Brook, who excels at hitting and can bat anywhere from position No. 1 to No. 6, will take its place. Jos Buttler spoke on the selection process in general and acknowledged the harsh realities of sports.
The England ODI captain stated, “Jason will be the top-order reserve, without a doubt. Harry, we do feel provides us versatility: he can cover Nos. 1 to 6 in the batting order, which is advantageous in a squad.
But because of the sport’s extremely harsh character, good players get left behind. Many people who weren’t among the 15 will have believed they had a strong chance of getting a slot. When a selection committee has a large pool of players to choose from, it is a horrible headache but a good problem, said Buttler.
