Jasprit Bumrah, India’s speed spearhead, made headlines both on and off the pitch when he donated the shoes he wore during his Day 2 masterclass at Lord’s to the MCC Museum. The gesture happened after Bumrah took his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, demolishing England’s middle and lower orders in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah’s explosive stint in the first innings of the crucial Test match saw him turn the game on its head in just seven deliveries.
He dismissed Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Chris Woakes in fast succession, taking England from 251/4 to 271/7 in no time. He eventually finished with 5 for 74, gaining a spot on the prestigious Lord’s Honours Board.
With this wicket, Bumrah matched teammate Ravindra Jadeja for the most five-wicket hauls in the format by an active Indian player. Interestingly, this was Bumrah’s second fifer of the series, following his match-defining effort in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, despite the fact that the visitors lost. He was rested for the second Test at Edgbaston due to workload management, but India still secured a historic victory without him.
The Ahmedabad native’s performance not only helped India bowl England out for 387 in their first innings, but it also marked another personal milestone as he eclipsed great all-rounder Kapil Dev to become India’s top wicket-taker in England’s longest format. Bumrah currently has 47 wickets in the country for an average of 25.43, including four five-wicket hauls. He trails only Ishant Sharma, who has 48 wickets in 14 games.
On the third day, the visitors maintained their lead with a powerful batting showing. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant formed a crucial 144-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Pant batted aggressively for 74 runs before being dismissed by England captain Ben Stokes’ quick direct smash soon before lunch. Rahul went on to score a well-crafted century before being removed, leaving Shoaib Bashir with 100.
