In 2024, Jasprit Bumrah has been a threat in both Test matches and Twenty20 Internationals. The 31-year-old wrecked havoc on the current tour to Australia, taking 30 wickets in four games. He was outstanding in the series against England earlier in the year. On Day 5 of the Boxing Day Test, he took out Nathan Lyon, who left for 41 runs, giving him another five-for to cap off the year.
On Day 4 of the Test, the off-spinner looked fantastic, but on Day 5 morning, the India international cleaned him up with a pearler and glanced at Lyon as he left the crease.

In 2024, it was Jasprit Bumrah seventh five-wicket haul in Test cricket, the most of any bowler.
With 71 Test wickets at the end of 2024, Bumrah also had 19 more than Gus Atkinson, who came in second. Josh Hazlewood, who has taken 35 Test wickets, is the first Australian player to rank tenth on the list.
Player | Match | Innings | Wickets | Average | Fifers |
Jasprit Bumrah | 13 | 26 | 71 | 14.92 | 5 |
Gus Atkinson | 11 | 21 | 52 | 22.15 | 3 |
Shoaib Bashir | 15 | 25 | 49 | 40.16 | 3 |

Ravindra Jadeja | 12 | 21 | 48 | 24.29 | 3 |
Prabath Jayasuriya | 09 | 18 | 48 | 32.20 | 4 |
Ravi Ashwin | 11 | 21 | 47 | 27.25 | 3 |
Asitha Fernando | 09 | 18 | 37 | 24.48 | 1 |

Josh Hazlewood | 07 | 13 | 35 | 13.60 | 2 |
In the meantime, in the third innings, the visitors bundled Australia to 234 runs. The team captained by Rohit Sharma had complete possession of the ball, but they ultimately let too many runs slip away, which could come back to haunt them. In the last innings at Melbourne Cricket Ground, they must chase 340 runs, which will be an extremely difficult job.
For India to remain in the running for a spot in the World Test Championship final, they urgently need to win. India and Australia are now in direct rivalry with South Africa, who has already qualified for the summit match. It will be beneficial for the squad when the Pat Cummins-led team plays Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series in 2025, but India needs to win in Melbourne and Sydney to maintain their hopes.
