Jasprit Bumrah, India’s bowling sensation, had a humorous moment at his post-match press conference at Lord’s. Bumrah, fresh after a spectacular five-wicket haul and with his name on the legendary Lord’s honours board, had a humorous reaction when a phone rang on the table.
The incident occurred as the pacer was attending to the reporters and responding to their enquiries. While answering to one inquiry, a phone rang unexpectedly, prompting Bumrah to pick it up and set it aside. During the process, he stated, “Someone’s wife has called. But I won’t pick it up; I’ll leave it as is.”

However, his 5/74 was clinical in bowling England out for 387 in the first innings of the third Test at Lord’s, earning him a seat on the Lord’s honours board as the 14th Indian. Bumrah, who was rested for the second Test at Edgbaston as part of workload management, delivered his best. On the second day morning, he dismissed three of England’s top hitters in rapid succession: Joe Root, captain Ben Stokes, and Chris Woakes.
This five-wicket haul was his 15th in Test cricket and 13th overseas, surpassing Kapil Dev’s previous record of 12 in overseas Tests. Despite Bumrah’s brilliance, England’s lower order made a strong recovery. Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse’s half-centuries led the home team to 387, with 116 runs added for the last three wickets.
Until I wear this jersey, there will be judgement: Jasprit Bumrah
India’s batting began poorly, with Yashasvi Jaiswal undone by Jofra Archer, followed by Karun Nair and Shubman Gill walking back. At stumps on Day 2, India were 145/3, 242 runs behind, with KL Rahul unbeaten on 53 and Rishabh Pant on 19. During the press conference, Bumrah discussed the difficulties of professional sport and the frequent criticism that players undergo.
“Until I wear this shirt, there will be judgement. That is standard practice in professional sports. You will constantly be graded on your performance, day in and day out. “When Sachin sir played 200 Test matches, he was still judged,” Bumrah explained.
The 31-year-old also recalled his previous visit to Lord’s in 2021, when, despite a disappointing bowling performance, he contributed with the bat to a legendary lower-order combination with Mohammed Shami.
“I don’t think about any of that. For me, the most memorable test match was in England last time. When Shami Bhai and I won the cricket match, I will undoubtedly remember those moments. It is a good idea to attend the Honours Board. When my son grows up, I may tell him that my name is on the Honours Board. It is also found in numerous other locations. But I recall the memories. In that match, I only took three or four wickets. But that experience was very meaningful to me since we came from behind in the game and bowled them out in 60 overs. “So memories are very important to me,” he explained.
