Jasprit Bumrah, the pace leader for the Mumbai Indians (MI), will miss the next Indian Premier League (IPL) game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) because of a back injury he suffered during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The right-arm fast bowler will also be absent from MI’s upcoming April 7 home matchup against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
The pacer is presently receiving rehabilitation after experiencing lower back pain connected to stress, according to an report. At the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, the bowler has been gradually increasing the amount of bowling he does these days. The cricket player, who was born in Ahmedabad, will now have to go through the last fitness tests before returning.
Before playing competitive cricket again, the 31-year-old is making sure he is completely recovered. His recovery is being watched carefully, particularly since India’s pivotal five-Test series against England is scheduled to start on June 28. The management is anxious to prevent any problems before the series begins.
Jasprit Bumrah missed the full 2023 season because of a back issue.
He has appeared in 133 IPL games and taken 165 wickets. MI has only won one of their first three games this season, indicating that his absence has been felt. Vignesh Puthur, Satyanarayana Raju, and Ashwani Kumar are among the new players the team has added. The bowling attack has been led by Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar while Bumrah has been out.
Bumrah was supposed to return in April, but Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of the Mumbai Indians, had previously said that he would miss games in March. His recuperation has been longer than expected, though.
The right-arm pacer’s troubles started during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s Sydney Test, which prevented him from winning the 2025 Champions Trophy. He was included in India’s provisional team, but new scans in early February showed that he was still uncomfortable, therefore he was left out of the final roster. Last month, India went on to win the tournament.
Without their best fast bowler, MI will have to rely on their resources to get through the competition while Bumrah is still healing.
