At the ICC Awards, Jasprit Bumrah of India was awarded the 2024 ICC Cricketer of the Year. Sir Garfield Sobers, a former West Indies star, gets honored with the coveted award. He joined Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Ravichandran Ashwin on January 28 as the sixth Indian player to get the honor.
The International Cricket Council’s Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy went to the outstanding speed bowler, who defeated Joe Root, Travis Head, and Harry Brook. Bunrah took 71 and 15 wickets in his 13 Test matches and eight Twenty20 Internationals for India, respectively.
Remarkably, 13 of Jasprit Bumrah Test matches took place away from home.
With the exception of the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, he performed brilliantly throughout the series against Australia and England in the longest format. He received Player of the Tournament honors for his outstanding performance with the ball during the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies.
In 2004, 2010, and 2016, respectively, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Ravichandran Ashwin were named the ICC Cricketer of the Year. The award was won by Virat Kohli in 2017 and 2018.
Notably, Jasprit Bumrah is still recuperating from a back ailment he suffered at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024–25. It is rumored that the bowler would return for the series’ third ODI against England in order to assess his current level of fitness. As far as the next Champions Trophy edition is concerned, he is understandably an important part of India.
