'I will play till the time God has written in my destiny' - Jasprit Bumrah is stays by criticism over injury worries

On Day 3 of the opening Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah starred, taking five wickets. Despite many doubts about his longevity, Bumrah claimed that he has always played cricket based on his own beliefs.

The right-arm pacer reminisced on his path, adding that while many questioned his longevity, assuming he would only last six to eight months, he is now approaching ten years in international cricket. With this fifer, the Ahmedabad native matched the legendary Kapil Dev for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian in away Tests.

“I want to play cricket for India. I have always played cricket based on my own beliefs. All three forms have allowed me to play on my own beliefs. People told me I wouldn’t be able to prolong my career. And when I did, they said, ‘You’ll play for six, eight months.

And now I’ll be finishing ten years of international cricket,” Jasprit Bumrah said in a press conference following Day 3 at Headingley.

🗣 “I prepare my best & leave it on God” @Jaspritbumrah93 speaks to the press about what fuels his belief & how he stays mentally strong to keep delivering for #TeamIndia💪

The 31-year-old pacer stated that he has played in the IPL for almost a decade and is no longer concerned with outsider opinions. He stated that he plans to continue playing for as long as it is necessary, leaving everything in the hands of God. He emphasised that his primary goal remains to contribute to Indian cricket and help the team go to the next level.

“I’ve been in the IPL for the past 12-13 years. People continue to say that I will leave the squad. But let folks think whatever they want; I’m not buying it. I keep doing it every three or four months. I shall play till God has written my fate. I give it my all while leaving everything else to God. Whatever God has given me, I attempt to carry it forward. “And take the Indian team to new heights,” he continued.
