Fans eagerly await the Indian team’s return to action in the major tournament as the T20 World Cup 2024 draws near. Following their defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup summit match, the Rohit Sharma-captained team will be hoping to perform better in the shorter format.
As the tournament draws near, there have been numerous conversations over the identity of the Men in Blue’s head coach. Interestingly, current head coach Rahul Dravid’s contract was set to expire after the 2023 ODI World Cup, but instead of having it finalized, he was asked to stay on as head coach for the December–January tour to South Africa along with other support staff members.
Nonetheless, Dravid will also serve as the team’s head coach for the 2024 T20 World Cup, according to Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).
Following the 2023 World Cup, Rahul bhai had to head straight to South Africa for the trip. Why are you concerned about a contract for someone as senior as Rahul Dravid when we were unable to meet in the interim, which was eventually resolved today? The Hindustan Times cited Jay Shah as saying, “Rahul bhai will continue to be the coach for the T20 World Cup.”
When the time is right, I will talk to him: Jay Shah
In addition, Jay Shah expressed his opinion that there will be additional rounds of discussion prior to the Twenty20 World Cup and that he will speak with Dravid about the matter whenever he has a chance.
“There are currently back-to-back series going on, so I will talk to him whenever I have time. After their time in South Africa, they played a (T20I) series at home against Afghanistan, and they are currently in England. We didn’t have any opportunity to talk in between,” Shah claimed.
Following the devastating ODI World Cup defeat, the Men in Blue will be seeking atonement. Veteran batsman Rohit Sharma will continue to captain the Indian squad in the T20 World Cup, the BCCI secretary has said.
