The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined West Indies pacer Jayden Seales 25% of his match earnings following an incident with Indian top-order batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Speaking about the event, on Day 1 of the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Seales aggressively flung the ball back to Jaiswal after it hit the batter’s pads. Match officials ruled that Seales’ gesture violated the Code of Conduct, notwithstanding the fact that he immediately apologised to the left-handed hitter.
According to Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, Seales’ actions constitute a Level 1 breach. Seales’ disciplinary record now has one demerit point added. This is his second demerit point in the past 24 months.
The right-arm pacer opposed the charges against him, necessitating a formal hearing. Seales claimed that the throw was merely intended to cause a run-out. However, match referee Andy Pycroft stated that the toss was “unnecessary” and “inappropriate.”
Jayden Seales went wicketless in India’s first innings of the ongoing Test, with his figures reading 0/88 in 22 overs.
At stumps on Day 3, West Indies were 173/2 in 49 overs, following on after getting bundled out for 248 in 81.5 overs in their first innings. They still trail the hosts by 97 runs heading into the fourth day of the contest.
John Campbell (87* off 145) and Shai Hope (66* off 103) stood unbeaten at the crease. The duo will aim to build on their score and put India under pressure. Notably, the first match went into the hands of India by an innings and 140 runs.
