Indian bowler Jaydev Unadkat has joined Sussex County Cricket Club and is prepared to play in his maiden County Championship game. Also noteworthy is the fact that Sussex signed renowned Indian hitter Cheteshwar Pujara, and Unadkat would soon be joining his teammate.
With the deal, Jaydev Unadkat will be permitted to play in at least three of Sussex’s final four Championship games. The match between Sussex and Durham on September 3 is anticipated to be the left-arm pacer’s debut contest. The only match he might be unable to attend is if he returned to India to represent Saurashtra in the Irani Cup, which is set to begin on October 1.
In India’s just finished multi-format series against the West Indies, Jaydev Unadkat participated. Despite playing for India in the two-match Test series, Jaydev Unadkat failed to claim any wickets. In his lone One Day International against the West Indies, he did, however, secure a wicket.
I’ve been keeping track of the group’s recent success: Jaydev Unadkat
The 31-year-old also came forward to commend Sussex when the news of Unadkat’s nomination became official. Following Sussex recently, he said, and after speaking with head coach Paul Farbrace, Unadkat believed he could significantly contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming days.
“I’ve been following the squad’s recent success, and after speaking with Sussex’s head coach, Paul Farbrace, it appears that I can undoubtedly bring value and help the club achieve its objectives. It seems to be the appropriate time for me at this point in my career, and the English County Championship has a great legacy. I was eager to seize the opportunity whenever it presented itself,” Unadkat was cited as saying by ESPN cricinfo.
In addition to helping the squad win games, he continued, “I hope to add to the laurels that my dear friend and teammate, Cheteshwar, has been adding aplenty while representing Sussex for the last couple of seasons.”
