Jemimah Rodrigues, India’s middle-order hitter, will miss the last two ODIs against Australia at home due to a viral fever, with Tejal Hasabnis replacing him.
The BCCI acknowledged the situation prior to the toss in the second of three ODIs in New Chandigarh. Rodrigues will stay under the care of the Indian medical team. Arundhati Reddy replaced Rodrigues in India’s XI for the encounter on Wednesday, September 17.
Jemimah Rodrigues was part of India’s XI that lost by eight wickets in the first ODI on September 14 at the same venue.
She scored 18 off 26 at No. 5 as India reached 281 for 7 before Australia crushed the mark with eight wickets and 35 balls to spare.
Rodrigues’ absence could not have come at a worse time, given the current series is a warm-up for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, which India will co-host with Sri Lanka. The event will begin on September 30 in Guwahati, with India competing against co-hosts Sri Lanka.
Hasabnis, a 28-year-old middle-order hitter, has played six ODIs in her brief career, accumulating 140 runs at 46.66 average and 78.65 strike rate, including a sole half-century against Ireland in January. She made her 50-over debut against New Zealand last October.
The whole roster remains unaltered, with Prema Rawat and Priya Mishra on standby for the series. Meanwhile, Australia leads the series 1-0. The third and final match will be held on September 20 in Delhi.
