During the recent third Test match between England and India at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground, India wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma was denied access by a security agent who did not recognise him. A fan documented the encounter, which has since gone viral. However, Jitesh was rescued by Dinesh Karthik, a fellow cricketer and commentator.
The 31-year-old attempted to enter the stadium in the midst of a massive crowd, but was halted by security personnel who demanded verification. Despite his efforts to explain his identity, the guards denied him entry. The scenario worsened when fans recognised Jitesh despite his struggle to obtain access. Fortunately, former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik, now a broadcaster, helped the cricketer escape the mayhem.
However, after the video went viral, Karthik republished it, stating that the event occurred outside the commentary box rather than at the ground’s entrance. Notably, the former invited Jitesh to the area to meet with him and other commentators. Karthik also noted that social media frequently does not provide a clear picture.
“These are some issues with social media that a lot face I invited jitesh to the comm box , he had come , and I came and met him down and took him to the comm box and he met everyone there Btw this is below the media centre, not the entrance to the ground,” Karthik replied in response to X.

Jitesh travels to Baroda from Vidarbha ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season.
Meanwhile, Jitesh was instrumental in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) first IPL title win earlier this year, scoring an unbeaten 85 against LSG and surpassing MS Dhoni’s record for the highest score by a No.6 or lower hitter in a successful IPL chase.
Jitesh recently announced his transfer from Vidarbha to Baroda ahead of the 2018 season. With few first-class appearances for Vidarbha due to the presence of Akshay Wadkar, his move to Baroda was likely influenced by his friendship with Krunal Pandya, an RCB player. Since making his debut at the 2023 Asian Games, the Amrawati-born player has played nine T20Is for India.
