Match 40 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between England and the Netherlands takes place at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday, November 8. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, England skipper Jos Buttler saw that openers Jonny Bairstow (15 off 17) and Dawid Malan scored 48 runs off of 42 balls to take the first wicket. When Aryan Dutt dismissed Bairstow in the seventh over, the Dutch experienced their first taste of victory. Joe Root was at the crease after his dismissal, as he and Malan engaged in an 85-run stand. Root was unable to turn his opening over into a noteworthy knock because Logan van Beek bowled him between the legs.
The 32-year-old attempted to play third man with his signature reverse scoop. But in the end, he failed to hit the ball at all, causing it to pass through his legs and demolish his stumps, leading to an embarrassing dismissal.
An England supporter in the audience was so upset by Joe Root ejection that he expressed his displeasure with his gesture.

As he scored four runs on the opening ball of the 14th over, Root demonstrated his ability to execute the hit earlier in the innings. On his second effort, he did not perform well, though, and was fired on 28 (35). With his innings, Root extended his miserable performance in the current World Cup, as he now stands at just 216 runs from eight innings with a strike rate of 90 and an average of just 27.
Ben Stokes reaches his first century in the World Cup.
With 556 runs from 11 innings, the star batter led his team in scoring for the 2019 tournament. In the meantime, Malan was fired for 87 (74) not long after Joe Root was fired. Following the dup’s dismissal, Ben Stokes amassed his first-ever century in the ODI World Cup and produced an incredible 108 (84) innings. Chris Woakes (51 off 45) provided strong support for him as the dup helped England reach 339/9 in their allocated 50 overs.
