The Rajasthan Royals bowling attack was severely disrupted by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batting lineup in the current IPL 2025 match 2. In the first innings, Sunrisers Hyderabad score 286-6, the second-highest total in league history. Jofra Archer, the RR star bowler, ends the match with an undesired record and holds the record for the most costly bowling spell in the IPL.
Although none of the Royals’ bowlers were able to keep their economy below 9 runs per over, Hyderabad’s top order was once again in excellent batting form, and Archer took the brunt of the punishment throughout the innings. Archer, who finished the game with figures of 0/76 in his four overs, went for more than an economy of 19.00. Mohit Sharma was the last bowler to hold this record, with scores of 0/73 against the Delhi Capitals the previous season. Archer, who last played for RR in 2020 and won player of the tournament, was making his much anticipated comeback.
Jofra Archer would not have wanted to begin his season in this manner after being acquired by the team for INR 12.50 crore.
The assault began in Archer’s first over, when Travis Head hammered him for 23 runs. In the fifth over, Archer was slapped all over the park.
The speedster was unable to break free from the spell as the bombardment persisted. Throughout his disappointing outing with the ball, Jofra was unable to locate his line and length and failed to make any progress.
In the 2025 edition of the league, Ishan Kishan became the first centurion, and SRH scored an incredible 286/6 in the opening innings. It was also the second-highest first-innings total in IPL history, with SRH having the highest total from the previous edition. The partnership between Dhruv Jurel and Sanju Samson has so far kept the hopes of the Riyan Parag-led team alive, despite the fact that SRH lost three wickets early in their pursuit.
