The Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) are playing in IPL 2025 match 23. Sanju Samson, the captain of RR, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Wanindu Hasaranga, who is unable to play because of personal reasons, was replaced by Fazalhaq Farooqi. GT didn’t change.
Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill opened the innings for GT, while England pacer Jofra Archer took the new ball for RR.
Archer’s opening over saw the Titans score seven runs, while Farooqi’s over yielded another seven. The English pacer appeared in perfect rhythm as he returned for his second over after clocking a scorching 152.3 kmph in his first.
At a speed of 147.7 kmph, Archer hit GT captain Shubman Gill with a smash in the opening ball of the third over. The ball came back in sharply, beating the inside edge and crashing into the off-stump, but Gill was late on the shot as he tried to press forward. The movement off the pitch caught the GT captain off guard and he was ejected for just 2(3).

At the toss, the GT captain stated that, given the dew effect in recent games, he would have liked to bowl first. He stated that the emphasis is still on playing each game as it comes, even though he is batting first this time. He stated that the starting lineup will remain the same, thanked the home crowd, and expressed delight with the top order’s performance.
Additionally, I would have bowled first. In the last several games, dew has entered during the second innings, but in this instance, we batted first. We don’t keep track of how many games we have won; we are just going one game at a time. When the top three or four perform well, I’m satisfied. The supporters have always been incredibly supportive, and we have had a pretty strong home run. Hopefully, nothing changes for us. We won’t be changing,” Gill stated during the toss.
