During a post-match chat, former England cricketer Jonathan Trott accidently divulged the London location of top Indian batter Virat Kohli. The incident occurred following India’s stunning 336-run victory against England at Edgbaston on July 6.
India’s victory at Edgbaston was their first at the historic stadium, making them the first Asian team to do so. The triumph was particularly notable because it marked the team’s first major Test appearance since the retirement of legends such Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy and excellent batting, as well as match-winning stints from Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, the team rallied to tie the series at 1-1.
Meanwhile, during the post-match debate on Sony Sports Network, Trott discussed Kohli’s position for the Indian squad and suggested that the 36-year-old may be missing the dressing room. Trott unintentionally supplied the batting maestro’s London address.
“Doesn’t he live in St. John’s Wood or somewhere nearby?” Can’t he be persuaded to return? Returning to Virat Kohli’s post, it is no surprise that he misses the feeling of being in the dressing room. “I sometimes wonder how quickly that feeling returns after you give up the game,” Trott added.
Great victory for India at Edgbaston: Virat Kohli
Notably, according to The Telegraph report, Kohli lives in Notting Hill, and St. John’s Wood is just 2.5 miles away. Since he retired from Tests and T20Is, Kohli has largely stayed away from the media. His last public appearance was during RCB’s controversial IPL victory parade.
Since then, he’s been residing in the UK with his family. Ahead of the India-England Test series, he even hosted a few Indian players at his London residence. Post India’s emphatic win at Edgbaston, he congratulated the team’s performance, especially Gill’s leadership and the brilliance of Akash and Siraj with the ball.
“Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch,” he wrote in his post on X.
