The Rajasthan Royals’ decision to release Jos Buttler prior to the IPL 2025 auction raised many questions among fans and experts. Since joining RR in 2018, the England captain has been the key player in their batting lineup, putting up standout performances, including a record-tying four hundreds in a single season in 2022. However, the Royals’ decision to let go of their best batter was largely influenced by worries about Buttler’s past injuries and future. Taking advantage of the situation, Gujarat Titans paid INR 15.75 crore to get Buttler.
Buttler’s outstanding fifty against his old team in Jaipur in Match No. 47 on Monday made them pay for it. Currently ranked fourth on the Orange Cap leaderboard, the English batter has already scored 404 runs in the 2025 season. Buttler raised the total to 209/4 in the allocated 20 overs with a blistering 50* off only 26 balls, adding three boundaries and four sixes to his innings.
Shubman Gill played a captain’s innings with 84 off 50 balls after being asked to bat first, missing a well-earned century by just 16 runs. Gill and B Sai Sudharsan put up a 93-run opening partnership to give the Titans a strong start. In addition to Buttler’s cameo, Washington Sundar and Shahrukh Khan helped the visitors maintain their scoring pace even after wickets fell.
Yes, excellent performance. Outstanding platforms have been set by the two men at the top. Our score on the board is good. Excellent wicket. The bounce is obviously a touch lower in Jaipur, but the speedy outfield offers a lot of value. I’ll need to bowl well. When I asked him what he considered a good score, he said that it was 190 or higher. “We’re a little above, but it might skid on if the dew comes,” he stated during the mid-innings break.
Jofra always has a few bouncers for me. He will definitely pay me back in the nets at some point. When I first saw him in the nets, I was astounded by his skill (referring to Sudharsan). The stumper-batter concluded, “In addition to his talent, he has a really good head on his shoulders.”
Here’s how fans reacted to Jos Buttler’s fifty against RR, his former franchise:
Shimron Hetmyer is getting 11 crores & retention over Jos Buttler coz he has huge 🍑 to twerk in front of owners. Jos Buttler can never satisfy RR owners the way Hetmyer does.

Is Rahul Dravid really responsible for Rajasthan Royals downfall or the retention of players and letting Jos Buttler go?https://t.co/645Bqcmk9D

Every boundary from Jos Buttler’s bat is slap to RR management especially Dravid…

If there are 100 T20 teams in the world, 99 of them would choose Jos Buttler.
Left one is Rajasthan Royals. https://t.co/LgsoROY4pD

Happy seeing him doing good, but tough to watch not in pink jersey. Proper ex-girlfriend vibes by Jos Buttler. #IPL #Hallabol

Whoever has released Jos Buttler from Rajasthan Royals giving the age factor as an excuse, should be hanged in public
He’s literally playing better cricket than 90% of the Royals team
