After a conversation with new white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum, who will officially take over in January 2025, England captain Jos Buttler is willing to give up wicketkeeping. England suffered mightily in the ODI World Cup 2023 and missed out on qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2024 finals under Jos Buttler captaincy.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has continued to have faith in him despite some questions about his ability to serve as captain. In an effort to improve as a captain, Buttler is now willing to spend more time with the bowler and is even considering giving up keeping. The 34-year-old said he would have given up keeping if he had participated in the Twenty20 International Series against Australia, but he is still making every effort to improve as a captain.
“I was going to give up the gloves and commit to being at mid-off and see how that felt if I was playing in this T20 series.” We can discuss that Baz came across it because of an injury that prevented him from keeping wicket, but he also genuinely enjoyed being at mid-off. Buttler stated on Sky Sports during the third Twenty20 International match, “If that’s something that will really help me in my captaincy, then it’s something that I am open to.”

Jos Buttler will not play in the five-match ODI series against Australia since he is currently sidelined due to a calf issue. But he wants to be the best version of himself and help England win games when he comes back. He moved to the middle order in ODIs previously and is now prepared to go.

“I’m totally up for that kind of thing. All I want is what’s best for the team, and I want to be the greatest captain I can be in order to achieve that. Buttler continued, “It’s okay if I have to move from behind the wickets to accomplish that.
