Josh Hazlewood, Australia’s star pacer, will miss the second Test of the series owing to a side strain, which is a significant setback for the hosts as they prepare to play India in the second Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Despite not having a cap, Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett were brought to the team when Hazlewood was left out. For the second Test, though, Scott Boland is anticipated to take Hazlewood’s spot.
Hazlewood had a “low grade left side injury,” according to a statement from Cricket Australia, and will stay with the team in Adelaide as he recovers.
Notably, Josh Hazlewood performed admirably in the series’ opening Test.
Taking four wickets in the first innings, he was instrumental in limiting India to just 150 runs. Additionally, he claimed another wicket in the second innings, but his team was unable to win the match.
Additionally, it would be Boland’s first Test for Australia since he replaced Hazlewood during the Leeds Ashes if he is selected in the starting lineup. Boland, who has a stellar home record, will be hoping to do well as Australia attempts to tie the series.
On Monday, December 2, the Australians will start training in Adelaide for the second Test match. The Indian side will face the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Saturday and Sunday for a two-day match. In an attempt to get in some overs and practice before the big game on Friday, December 6, Boland is included in the PM’s XI.
Australia will be hoping to level the playing field and make a significant improvement after losing the first Test. The second Test match is a day/night match between the two teams at the Adelaide Oval.
