Franchise Twenty20 tournaments are sweeping the world, so Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is getting ready to hold the fourth Lanka Premier League (LPL). The fourth season of the event will take place from July 30 to August 20. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that the tournament will hold its first-ever auction.
The first Lanka Premier League player sale will take place on June 14 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo. S
LC also said that each club will bring in US$500,000, which means that all five teams will bring in a total of US$2.5 million.
So far, the event has gone pretty well, and with the auction, the level of competition will definitely go up. Several news sources also say that each company can choose between 20 and 24 players for each of its teams and that each team can have up to six players from outside the country.
The teams have signed some big names as free agents. David Miller, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Thisara Perera, and Maheesh Theekshana are on the Jaffna Kings team. Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Matheesha Pathirana, and Chamika Karunaratne are on the Colombo Stars team.
Dambulla Aura’s direct signings are Matthew Wade, Lungi Ngidi, Kusal Mendis, and Avishka Fernando. Galle Gladiators’ direct signings are Shakib Al Hasan, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dasun Shanaka, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Lastly, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fakhar Zaman, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Angelo Mathews are all members of the Kandy Falcons.
The LPL 2022 was won by the Jaffna Kings, who beat the Colombo Stars by two runs in the final game. Avishka Fernando scored the most runs at the end of the event in 2022, while Carlos Brathwaite took the most wickets with 18.
The first auction will happen in June, so when the game starts on July 30, the level of competition is sure to be higher.
