Fast bowling sensation Kamlesh Nagarkoti has been declared out for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) for Delhi Capitals due to a back injury. The youthful right-arm pacer has yet to appear for Delhi Capitals this season, and according to a PTI report, he will miss the entire campaign.
Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyam Garg joined Delhi’s training camp on Wednesday, April 19, as the franchise is anticipated to announce Kamlesh Nagarkoti replacement within the next few days.
Despite being selected by Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2018 edition’s auction, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, 23, has been limited to just 12 IPL appearances in the past due to a back injury. Due to a back injury, he missed the entire 2019 season and made his IPL début in 2020.
Despite occasional remarkable performances, the youngster has not been at his best recently. With only seven wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, Rajasthan’s fast bowler also endured a disappointing domestic season. He has not played competitive cricket in 2023 and did not make the Delhi Capitals’ playing eleven for their first five games.
The Delhi Capitals have an abundance of pace options, including Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Chetan Sakariya, in addition to international talents Anrich Nortje and Mustafizur Rahman. Ishant Sharma and Lungi Ngidi are also on the Delhi Capitals’ substitutes, but Nagarkoti’s injury could be detrimental.
Khaleel, Mukesh, and Nortje have taken a combined nine wickets, and Delhi’s position in the league table reflects their subpar bowling performance. The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel has also failed to contribute, taking a total of six wickets to date.
With Kamlesh Nagarkoti absence, the franchise is forced to rely on existing options.
Five games into the 2023 IPL season, David Warner’s team has yet to record a victory. On Wednesday, April 20, they will host the seventh-placed Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in an attempt to earn their first victory of the season.
